On Sunday, 10 August 2025, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research launched the third edition of the Higher Education Reading Award. The initiative, recommended by the ministerial committee overseeing the programme, seeks to promote a culture of reading and intellectual awareness among Iraqi university students.

This year’s competition is open to students of the Islamic University in Najaf and its branches in Babel and Diwaniya.

Registration: 10 August – 28 September 2025
Online examination: Saturday, 4 October 2025, at 11 a.m.
Award ceremony: Thursday, 9 October 2025, at Al-Hakim Hall, University of Baghdad

First place: 10 million Iraqi dinars
Second place: 8 million Iraqi dinars
Third place: 5.5 million Iraqi dinars
Fourth to twentieth place: 4.5 million Iraqi dinars each
The three universities with the highest participation nationwide will also be honoured.

The 90-minute electronic exam can be taken from any internet-enabled device.

The Ministry described the competition as a golden opportunity for students to test their reading and cultural skills, compete for substantial prizes, and represent their universities on a national stage.
