As part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s commitment to promoting international academic cooperation, and under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Islamic University in Najaf hosted a comprehensive workshop on the European Union’s Erasmus+ scholarship programmes. The event, held on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, aimed to highlight the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programmes to Iraqi students and academic institutions.
The workshop was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Muwaffaq Sachid Samir, Director of the Department of International and Arab Organisations at the Ministry of Higher Education. During the session, he outlined the key opportunities and programmes offered by the European Union and explained how they can be leveraged to elevate the standing of Iraqi universities on the international academic stage.
The workshop was attended by the President of the Islamic University, Prof. Dr. Ammar Abdul Amir Al-Salami, along with scientific and administrative assistants, deans of colleges, university professors, directors of missions and cultural relations departments from various Iraqi universities, as well as a number of students and graduates.
The workshop commenced with a welcoming address by the President of the University, followed by a lecture delivered by Dr. Muwaffaq. The session concluded with an engaging discussion and a Q&A segment, during which attendees expressed their appreciation for the efforts made in organising the event and for the valuable knowledge shared. They praised the workshop’s role in supporting students’ academic development and promoting the engagement of Iraqi universities with international cooperation programmes.
