About libraries
Librarianship, in its general concept, is a branch of the arts and social sciences, and the first school of librarianship was founded by Melville Dewey at Columbia University in 1887.This system then developed and grew rapidly as it became a science related to all types of human knowledge, and began to control, preserve and disseminate it, and facilitate access to it with minimal costs and efforts, and the science of correspondence became based on codified and precise rules, and based on solid foundations and theories whose main objective is to facilitate access to human knowledge and disseminate it among people after collecting, controlling, documenting, preserving and retrieving it.University libraries: It is a huge amount of sources of information and knowledge in various organised forms. The types and forms of information sources vary from printed books to periodicals, old manuscripts, engineering drawings, atlases, maps, and newspapers. A university library can be described as a place dedicated to collecting information sources and presenting them to the academic community.One of the objectives of the university library is to keep workers, researchers and students in the different faculties and departments of the university abreast of the latest scientific trends in the field of their specialisations by providing information sources of various types and forms, organising and processing them so that they can be easily classified and easily accessed.For this reason, the Islamic University took it upon itself to establish the central library at the university, and its establishment coincided with the establishment of the university. The library has gone through several developments in terms of increasing the area and number of holdings, and the services provided. The Islamic University believed in the necessity of having a library that serves the student community in particular, and researchers and students in general, and provides all means for the success of the academic process at the university.The library has grown steadily until it has reached this remarkable development in the building, And the services provided, And collectibles.The current library building has an area of about 300 square meters, Between its sides and shelves (16,150) of information vessels include a book, a periodical, a university letter, a manuscript and audio-visual materials, It is now classified by objective classification.There is a vision for the future that the library's procedures and services will be fully computerized, The use of computers in all library work and services directly and indirectly by the Global Library Classification System as the Millennium Dewey Decimal Classification and other classifications in force in the world.The Central Library of the Islamic University is composed of a collection of several personal libraries and others:Among them: The personal library of His Eminence Mr. Hassan Al-Kabangi w, which includes (5489) between printed and manuscript in various fields and topics of references and sources old and modern.Among them are: Islamic Science Library in the Building of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Comprising (6,360) between writers, thesis, university missions, periodicals, etc., It also includes english language sciences and literature of approximately (750) books, and other sciences.This includes the Virtual Scientific Library, and there is a large number of researchers and teachers subscribing to it.
