About libraries

Library science, in its general sense, has emerged as a branch of arts and social sciences, and the first school of library science was founded by Melville Dewey at Columbia University in 1887. This system then developed and grew rapidly, becoming a science associated with all kinds of human knowledge, It began to control, preserve and disseminate, and was easily obtained at the lowest cost and efforts, and the science of libraries became based on codified and accurate rules, It is based on well-established foundations and theories whose primary objective is to facilitate access to and dissemination of human knowledge among people after it has been compiled, controlled and documented, Then save it and retrieve it. University libraries: is a huge amount of sources of information and knowledge in its various structured forms, There are many types and forms of sources of information, from printed books to periodicals and ancient manuscripts, and geometric drawings, atlases, maps, And the papers. The University Library can be described as a dedicated place for collecting sources of information and submitting it to the academic community. One of the objectives of the University Library is to keep the staff, researchers and scholars in the university's colleges and various departments in line with the latest scientific trends in their fields of specialization, By providing and organizing sources of information of all kinds and forms, They are processed so that they are easily classified and easily accessible. That is where the Islamic University took it upon itself to establish the central library of the university, Its origins coincided with the founding of the university, The library has undergone several developments in terms of an increase in space and the number of acquisitions, And the services provided, It was a belief in the need for a library that served the student community in particular, researchers and scholars in general, And provide every way to make the academic career a success at the university. The library has grown steadily until it has reached this remarkable development in the building, And the services provided, And collectibles. The current library building has an area of about 300 square meters, Between its sides and shelves (16,150) of information vessels include a book, a periodical, a university letter, a manuscript and audio-visual materials, It is now classified by objective classification. There is a vision for the future that the library's procedures and services will be fully computerized, The use of computers in all library work and services directly and indirectly by the Global Library Classification System as the Millennium Dewey Decimal Classification and other classifications in force in the world. The Central Library of the Islamic University is composed of a collection of several personal libraries and others: Among them: The personal library of His Eminence Mr. Hassan Al-Kabangi w, which includes (5489) between printed and manuscript in various fields and topics of references and sources old and modern. Among them are: Islamic Science Library in the Building of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Comprising (6,360) between writers, thesis, university missions, periodicals, etc., It also includes english language sciences and literature of approximately (750) books, It also includes books and works of the media, the press and the law, and other sciences.
