The College of Media at the Islamic University held its second regular meeting of the College Council, chaired by the Acting Dean of the College, Professor Dr Hadi Abdul Nabi Al-Tamimi, with the attendance of all Council members. The meeting was attended by Professor Dr Najeh Jameel Al-Safi, Assistant Dean; Assistant Lecturer Ali Alaa Al-Ruhaimi, Rapporteur of the Department of Journalism; Assistant Lecturer Karrar Abdul Nabi Al-Madani, the faculty representative on the College Council; Lecturer Dr Hadi Razaq Al-Khazraji, Council Secretary; in addition to the student Ali Hatim, the student representative, and Mr Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Sahib, representative of the Advisory and Industrial Council at the College of Media.
At the outset of the meeting, the Acting Dean reviewed the directives of the University Council addressed to all colleges, after which a number of academic and administrative issues listed on the Council’s agenda were discussed. The discussions focused primarily on preparing a practical plan, in coordination with the College’s Advisory and Industrial Council, in line with labour market requirements and aimed at providing specialised employment opportunities for the College’s graduates.
The Council also discussed the follow-up of the decision of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Media in Iraq regarding the implementation of joint examinations between public and private colleges during the first semester, with one subject for each academic stage, excluding the first year. In this context, the Acting Dean expressed his appreciation to the faculty members of the Department of Journalism for their successful management of the joint examinations in cooperation with the Department of Journalism at the College of Arts, University of Babylon.
Furthermore, the Council approved the requests of a number of first-year students to transfer from evening to morning study programmes. The Council also discussed a proposal by the President of the University to change the name of the Department of Journalism to the Department of Digital Media, and accordingly decided to form a specialised committee to prepare a comprehensive study for the implementation of this proposal at the earliest possible time.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council called for encouraging faculty members to organise scientific and cultural activities for the academic year 2025–2026, in a manner that contributes to enhancing the academic environment of the College and advancing its academic trajectory.
