Islamic University, Najaf
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr Naeem Yasser Al-Aboudi, and under the supervision of Professor Dr Ammar Abdul-Amir Al-Salami, President of the Islamic University in Najaf Al-Ashraf, the university hosted the opening of the Iraqi Universities Volleyball Championship – Middle Euphrates Region (Male and Female Students). The tournament is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority / Student Activities Department, in partnership with Middle Euphrates Technical University, with broad participation from a number of public and private universities.
The opening ceremony was attended by several academic and administrative figures, along with representatives of the participating universities, in a competitive sporting atmosphere that reflected a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among Iraqi university students. The first day of the championship featured several opening matches marked by enthusiasm and a high technical level.
Results of Day One Matches:
Al-Qasim Green University defeated Al-Ameed University (2–0)
Al-Qadisiyah University defeated the University of Babylon (2–1)
Ahl Al-Bayt University defeated Al-Warith University (2–0)
Tournament organisers affirmed that hosting this sporting event reflects the Islamic University’s commitment to supporting student activities and strengthening the role of university sports in building student character, fostering teamwork, and promoting fair competition.
The championship will continue until 23 December 2025, with expectations of strong performances and active participation contributing to the success of this major university sporting event.
