Engineering College’s Medical Devices Department to Hold Symposium on “Smart Waste Management Systems: Toward More Sustainable Cities”

Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Ammar Abdul-Amir Al-Salami, the Department of Medical Devices at the College of Engineering held a scientific symposium titled “Smart Waste Management Systems: Towards More Sustainable Cities.” The event explored the latest methods and technologies in waste management and their role in advancing sustainable development within urban environments.

Dr. Ahmed Saeed and Professor Doaa Selim delivered the keynote lectures, outlining the concept of smart waste management systems and their impact on reducing environmental footprint, improving resource-use efficiency, and enhancing the quality of life in modern cities.

The speakers also highlighted international experiences in implementing smart waste solutions, including the use of sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve waste collection and recycling processes.

The symposium concluded with interactive discussions involving faculty members and students, who stressed the importance of promoting environmental awareness and encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices across institutions and communities—efforts that align with the Islamic University’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental innovation.
