As the holy month of Muharram begins, an atmosphere of solemnity and reflection envelops Najaf Al-Ashraf. The city, renowned for its deep spiritual heritage, witnesses renewed expressions of devotion in its historic squares, as residents commemorate the tragedy of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). Service processions and community events fill the streets, reflecting the enduring love and loyalty to the Prophet’s family (Ahl al-Bayt).
Among these efforts, the Islamic University in Najaf Al-Ashraf—situated in the Old City opposite the Imam Hussein Medical Complex—continues its tradition of serving visitors. Under the guidance of University President Prof. Ammar Abdul Amir Al-Salami and the direct supervision of Mr. Abdul Karim Al-Haidari, head of the Community Service Division, the university’s procession has distinguished itself through dedicated service.
University staff and volunteers have not only provided food and refreshments to the thousands of pilgrims but have also launched a comprehensive street-cleaning campaign. This initiative aims to ensure a clean and safe environment for the visitors of Imam Amir Al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him), accommodating the significant influx of people during these sacred days.
These activities underscore the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of volunteerism and community service. Through their actions, students and staff embody practical loyalty to Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), striving to honor their legacy and values. Organizers expressed hope for continued success in serving the visitors and remaining steadfast on the path of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and his enduring message.
