Islamic University, Najaf
In a solemn ceremony held in the courtyard of the Islamic University in Najaf, the black flag of mourning was raised to mark the beginning of the holy month of Muharram and to commemorate the tragedy of Karbala. The event was attended by the President of the University, Prof. Dr Ammar Abdul Amir Al-Salami, along with Dr Hassan Taher Melhem, Assistant to the President for Administrative Affairs, and a number of deans, faculty members, and administrative staff. The raising of the black flag symbolised grief for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and served as a renewal of allegiance to his timeless cause. In his remarks, Dr Al-Salami emphasised that the ceremony reflects a deep sense of belonging to the school of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his enduring principles of reform, justice, and sacrifice.
