Two assistant lecturers from the Faculty of Medical Technologies’ Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques, Muhammad Ali Hamed and Baraa Aqil Hussain, took part in a workshop in Turkey that was organised by the Iraqi Society for Biosafety and the National Committee for Biological Risk Management of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education.
A workshop was held from November 14 to 17, 2022, in Istanbul, by the US Sandia International Laboratories and the US Department of State.
The workshop focused primarily on assessing internal threats and human weaknesses in managing biological material risks, and how to deal with them.
Both teachers contributed to scientific discussions and lectures on internal and external threats, as well as how to reduce their likelihood.
Professors from several Iraqi universities as well as representatives from the Iraqi Ministries of Agriculture, Health, and Higher Education all attended the event.
The instructors’ participation was to share knowledge and experiences with the students in order to improve their handling of biological materials and lessen their risk to the environment because they come into direct touch with these materials.
At the end of the workshop, teachers received certificates of attendance, assessing their contribution to the workshop. (HTH)
