The Islamic University and its two branches in the provinces of Babylon and Al-Diwaniyah organised a pentathlon competition for both male and female students under the direction of the university’s president, Dr. Ammar Al-Salami, to encourage sports participation among both male and female students due to the benefits of sports on improving students’ concentration on their studies and their scientific performance.
The head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the College of Education, Dr. Jabbar Rahima, said that “the first match took place between the university teams in Najaf and the team of the university branch in Al-Diwaniyah, the latter winning with a score of 6-2.” Najaf with 3-0, while the final match took place on Wednesday morning between the Babylon and Al-Diwaniyah teams, with the latter winning 8-0 to take the first place and the championship cup, while the university team in Najaf, followed by the university branch in Babylon, with the third place in the university branch in Babylon”.
Dr. Rahima added, “While the central championship of pentathlon for female students took place in the closed sports hall, where the university team in Najaf defeated the team of the Babel branch, as it was reserved for females exclusively with supervision, management, arbitration, and attendance.” (HTH)
