The Faculty of Law organised a panel discussion entitled “Coercion in the Marriage Contract” on the Google Meet platform on Sunday, May 9, 2021, for assistant teacher Ahmed Qais Hussein Al-Dulaim, in which he focused on three topics:
1- A statement of the Iraqi civil law’s position on coercion, as well as a description of the types of coercion and their effects.
2- Iraqi Personal Status Law’s view on coercion in marriage contracts, how forceful marriage results in a penalty, and how coercion affects marriage contracts.
3- Provide recommendations to help women defend themselves, and promote an awareness culture in society about forced marriage and the role that civil society organizations can play. (HTH
